WHITEHALL - - Florence A. Williams, 92, of Whitehall, entered God’s Holy presence after a long illness, on November 15, 2017, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on April 4, 1925 to the late Gustave and Martha Belter in Eau Claire, WI. Florence graduated from high school in 1944 and was the city champion in tennis during her high school years. Upon graduation, she worked for the U.S. Rubber Company and shortly after began working for the Army Air Corps in the personnel office at Traux Field. She met Edward Williams, an Air Force pilot, during her time at Traux Field, during World War II. Subsequent to Ed’s discharge, they were married on December 1, 1945 in Eau Claire, WI. Shortly following, they returned to her husband’s hometown of Whitehall, N.Y., where they owned and operated Williams Insurance Agency. While together, they raised four children and were happily married for 50 years. Upon retirement in 1981, Florence and Edward enjoyed their winters together in Jensen Beach, FL.

Flo loved playing tennis, bowling, gardening and baking, especially our favorite peanut butter cookies and strawberry rhubarb pie.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and The Elks Fawns.  She was a devoted sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, who was always there to help and lend a hand to those in need. She was known to her siblings as “Sis”, her friends as “Flo”, and by many others as “Gramma Flo”.

Flo is predeceased by her husband, Edward Williams, of Whitehall, sister, Leola Gallagher, of Eau Claire, WI, brother, Walter Belter, Rockville, MD, and son Michael Williams of Fultonville, NY.

Survivors include her brother, Everett Belter, Lady Lake, Florida; daughter, Barbara (Ivars) Semeiks, Coxsackie, NY, son, James Williams and daughter Cheri Williams, of Whitehall; grandchildren Bethany Semeiks, Costa Mesa, CA, Corey (Cathryn) Williams, North Grafton MA, Patrick (Jen) Williams, Albany, NY, Heather Williams, New Orleans, LA, Lindsay (Peter) Telisky, Clifton Park, NY, and Loren Martell, great granddaughter Caroline Williams. Queensbury, NY; son-in-law, Jim Martell, Whitehall, and daughter-in-law Brenda Dufel of Fultonville, NY.

Flo will be deeply missed by all of those who loved and cared for her in her later years, especially those at Holbrook Assisted Living and her loving caregivers during her time at Cheri’s home.

Calling hours will be held at the United Methodist Church in Whitehall on Saturday, November 18th at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. A luncheon in the parish hall will follow the service to celebrate her beautiful life.  Contributions in Florence’s memory can be made to the Whitehall United Methodist Church, 56 Greenmount Cemetery Lane, Whitehall, N.Y.
