Whitehall – Luella Carpenter Rathbun went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2017 at the Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Granville, NY.

She was born December 15, 1918 in the Town of Granville, the daughter of the late Leon R. Carpenter and Anna Carey.

Luella graduated from Granville High School in 1936 and from Plattsburgh State University in 1939.  She earned her Bachelor of Education Degree in 1942.  She taught for 35 years in the Whitehall Schools.

Luella and Charles Rathbun were united in marriage on July 15th, 1943.

She was a past member of the D.A.R., a member of Sylvan Star Skenesborough Chapter no. 2122, Order of the Eastern Star in Granville, a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association, and the Whitehall Association of Retired Teachers.

Luella was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1949 and a member of the Baptist Ladies Aide.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister Harriett Scott, sister Maude Talbot and husband Earl, sister Mae Lloyd and husband Albert, sister Jean McEachron and husband Raymond, half-brothers Raymond Hall and wife Lillian, and half- brother Darwin Hall and niece Emily Scott O’Hare.

Survivors include her sister-in-law Edna Darrah, brother-in-law Horace Scott.  Nieces Ann Sunderland, Debbie Martinez, June Brown, Gail Nazak, Kay Darrah, Donna Austin and nephews John Talbot, Bill, Rick and Andy McEachron, Horace “Bud” Scott, Neil and Jeff Darrah as well as several grand nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 41 Williams Street, Whitehall on September 15, 2017 at 10:00 am with Rev. Jim Peterson officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams St. Whitehall, NY.

Family and Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday September 14, 2017.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the First Baptist Church, 41 Williams Street, Whitehall, NY  12887
