Rita M. (LaRose) Stark

Whitehall-Rita M. Stark, 98, passed peacefully in her sleep on December 12, 2017 at the Granville Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, in Granville, NY.

Rita was born on May 8, 1919 in Rutland, Vermont, the daughter of the late Burt and Winifred (Rivers) LaRose.

Rita was married to Lawrence (Sonny) Stark on August 30, 1936 and spent much of her married life in Whitehall, Granville and Hampton, NY.  She retired from last job as a cafeteria worker at the Whitehall Elementary School, after all but her youngest child had retired.  She retired when she was in her 80’s, and loved every minute of working with her co-workers and seeing many of her great grandchildren go through the cafeteria lines during lunch.

She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Lawrence, two sons, Raymond (Pepper) and Lawrence who died in infancy; her brother Donald Printy; Daughter-in-Law Patricia (Rozell) Stark; Granddaughter Kelly Turner, and Sister-in-Law and life time best friend Beulah (Stark) Lyman.

She is survived by her children, Robert of Granville, NY, Richard (Frances) of Hampton, NY, Janice (Tim) Soothcage of Whitehall, NY, Robin (Norbert) Wesely of Newmarket, NH, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service is planned for a later date.

The family suggest that any memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org
