West Hebron- Wayne H. Austin, 76, passed away on November 7, 2017 after a brief illness at the Granville Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing (formally Indian River) in Granville, NY. Wayne was born on November 6, 1941 in Whitehall, NY. He was the son of the late Edward and Adell (Sachs) Austin.
Wayne was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls. He was an active member of the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department in Hebron, New York for over 30 years. Wayne was employed by Native Textiles in Glens Falls for many years.
He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army after serving for two years in the Vietnam War.
He loved to spend time with his family especially his grand-children and great grand-children. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially auto racing.
He is survived by his wife Arlene Austin, his four children, James Austin and wife Deborah, Pam Austin and her significant other Duane Gowen, John Austin and his fiancé Kimberly Groesbeck, Valerie Vadnais and her husband Mark. Grandchildren, Lauren Whiting, Emily Austin, Hannah, Alysa and Andrew Groesbeck, Gabrielle, Levi and Mark Vadnais JR and one great grandchild Mia Jane Whiting. A brother Howard Austin (Ida), two sisters Jean Barber (Tony) and Jane Dougherty (Dan).
The family would like to thank the Glens Falls Hospital and Indian River Nursing Facility staff for all of their help and kindness during his illness.
Calling Hours will be held from 10am to 11:30am on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Jillson Funeral Home Inc. 46 Williams Street, Whitehall, NY. A Prayer Service will be held at 11:30am following the calling hours at the funeral home, officiated by Laura Mitchell Pastor of the Hebron United Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow the service in the Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Whitehall.
Pall bearers will be Levi Vadnais, Mark Vadnais, Mark Vadnais JR, Daniel Dougherty, Brandon Whiting, and Andrew Groesbeck.
