JoAnn Ingalls Obituary

Whitehall-We lost our amazing, loving Mother and Grandmother, JoAnn Ingalls on Friday, March 29th 2024. JoAnn died at 85 years old, born July 22, 1938 in Virginia

She died in peace surrounded by her family, at home. This is written by her children and grandchildren, although we are filled with sadness for our loss, have faith that she is now in heaven, especially  with her daughters Joyce and Kathy. Also preceded in death by her husband, CDR Fred Ingalls,  of Whitehall US Navy.

JoAnn’s family meant the world to her.

Kathy Ingalls Rigby. Deceased October 12, 2022

David Ingalls.

Laura Ingalls, and child Freddie.

Devoted grandsons Freddie Ingalls, who took such great care of his grandmother in her final months, and Johnny Twyman. 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Survived by brother Gary Di Sandro and predeceased by brother Ronnie DiSandro.

JoAnn married Fred, a widower with 5 children….and proceeded to grow the family with 4 more children.  She was a stay-at-home mother taking care of the family while Fred held a lifetime career with the Navy. 

Volunteerism and Charity work was an important part of her life. Serving as a Girl Scout Leader for 15 years, Red Cross Volunteer, President of the Officers Wives League in Pensacola, Fl, Girls Softball coach and active with the PTA, and the Florida Junior Miss Board, just to name a few.

As the children grew, JoAnn began a service career with the American Cancer Society, working her way up as a District VP and retired from this job after 14 years.

After retirement, JoAnn and Fred moved back to his hometown of Whitehall, NY; whereby they owned and operated the “Crows Nest” on Main Street, starting a resurgence of local business, and then went on to start the foundation known as “SOS – Save Our Skene” where she was very successful in fundraising and volunteers and continued with that project for many years until her health prevented her from working.

As a devout Catholic, JoAnn was very involved with Our local church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Lecturer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11am on Friday April 5, 2024 at the Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, Whitehall.
