Granville-Nelson W. Briggs of Granville passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Nelson was born on April 6, 1935 to the late William B. Briggs and Catherine (Williams) Briggs in Salem, NY. After attending Hartford schools he began working at Avery Sawmill in Salem, NY. Nelson then took his work ethic and ambition to Telescope where he worked 29 years as a mechanic. Upon his retirement he ran his own garage until he retired again. You could always find him working to repair something. His hard work never stopped. Nelson was known for his ability to fix anything mechanical. He took great joy in helping others and we were all grateful for his knowledge. His ability to learn these things on his own and pass them on to others was a gift he gave to those that knew him.
Besides his parents, Nelson is also predeceased by an infant son, his grandson Brian Douglas and several siblings.
Nelson is survived by his wife of 65 years Edna (Morehouse) of Granville, his children, Patricia (Gary) Douglas, Diane Briggs, Richard (Darlene) Briggs, Kathleen (Jack) Renadette, and Ruth Briggs; ten grandchildren: Rebecca Douglas, Michelle LaGoy, Travis Briggs, Meagan North, Justin Briggs, Joe Madigan, Christine Madigan, Chelsea (Matt) Kroeger, Dylan Bogart and Matthew Morrison. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren, three who were local and enjoyed spending time with him whenever they could – Eli Douglas, Elizabeth Kroeger and Gunnar Knapp.
Arrangements are under the care of the Jillson Funeral Home Inc. 46 Williams Street, Whitehall, NY. Calling hours will be held from 3:00-5:00 PM on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the Jillson Funeral Home, with a prayer service to follow celebrating his life.
