Whitehall- Robert “Bob” Carswell, 72, passed away on July 19, 2018 at the Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness.
Bob was born on July 7, 1946, the son of the late Charles and Peg (Beeler) Carswell.
He was a graduate of Whitehall High School, class of 1964. Following high school, Bob entered the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Ticonderoga during the Vietnam War.
He was employed by the New York State Department of Corrections working as a Correction Officer for 33 years, and retiring from Washington Correctional Facility. After his retirement he became the financial officer for the Whitehall American Legion Post 83.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Charles Carswell Jr.
Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years Kathleen (Jeffreys) Carswell, his three children, Brent Carswell of Meadville, PA, Nick Carswell of Harpers Ferry, WV, and Sarah Carswell of Fairport, NY. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and two siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Monday July 23, 2018 at the Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, Skene Street, Whitehall, officiated by Father Peter Pagones.
Family and friends may call from 4PM to 7PM on Sunday July 22, 2018 at the Jillson Funeral Home Inc., 46 Williams Street, Whitehall, NY 12887. Interment will follow the Mass in the Greenmount Cemetery.
The Whitehall Elks 1491 will conduct a Lodge of Sorrow at 6:30PM on Sunday, followed by the Whitehall American Legion Post 83, Legionnaires Service at 6:45PM.
