Whitehall-Alfred C. DeLuca passed on to his eternal rest while at Fort Hudson Nursing Home on Friday, May 2, 2025. Alfred was born on October 20, 1932, in Portland, Maine. He was the son of Clara (Walstrom), Rocco DeLuca, and the stepson of John Van Guilder.
After the death of his father, his family moved to Whitehall where he continued his education and became a graduate of Whitehall High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army National Guard where he served as a tank crewman and sharpshooter. Alfred served in this position from 1949 until his honorable discharge in 1955. Prior to his discharge, he married Margaret Hurley. It was also around that time that he began his career working for the county. Later, he became a laborer with Finch Pruyn Paper Company. Alfred worked there for 35 years, retiring as a power plant superintendent.
Alfred had an extreme talent for working with wood. During his spare time, he would spend hours carving figurines and making furniture. He also enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, and the opportunities for spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by his daughter Patricia DeSimone and his sister Josephine McGrath.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Margaret, his children: Mark (Valerie), John (Audrey), and Paul, all of Whitehall, his grandchildren: Rachel Waters (Matthew), Rebecca Nelson (Christopher), Keirsten Marsico (Jospeh), Christine DeSimone, Nicholas DeSimone (Kayla), Daniel Deluca (Kayla), and Kara DeLuca, great grandchildren: Mia, Ava, Kendall, Aubree, Rocco, Emma, Gianna, Joy, Joey, Wayland, Wyatt, and his son-in-law Ralph DeSimone.
