WHITEHALL-Alfred John (Gunnar) Larson, 82, of Whitehall passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Albany Medical Center.
Al was born in Whitehall on June 5th, 1935. He was the son of the late Gunnar and Lucy (Austin) Larson.
Besides his parents he is also predeceased by his infant sister, Elizabeth.
Al was a graduate of Whitehall High School Class of 1954.
Alfred married the love of his life, Lois Juckett on May 18, 1958 at the North Granville Methodist Church.
He retired after 45 years from the Grand Union Company as the Meat Manager at the Whitehall store.
Alfred was a longtime member of the Whitehall United Methodist Church. He served for the New York State National Guard for 22 years at the Whitehall Armory. He was an honorary lifelong member of the Whitehall Rifle Club, as well as a lifetime member of the NRA. He was also a member of the Mt. Hope Phoenix Lodge and Eureka Lodge Masonic Lodges.
Survivors include his wife Lois of 59 years, his children Nancy Shanley and her husband William IV of Malvern, PA, Carol Greene and her husband Gary Sr. of Whitehall, Mary Jauris and her husband Donald of Nashua, NH, Donna Moyer and her husband Arthur of Granville, Karen Stefl and her husband Nathan of Rochester; grandchildren Bill and Samantha Shanley, Daniel Shanley, Gary and Hope Greene Jr., Hillary Fenton, Emily Shanley, Sarah Jauris, Hannah Jauris, Clayton Fenton, and Myles Stefl; great-grandchildren Gary E. Greene, Will Shanley, soon to be Vivian Greene and Baby Shanley.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Jillson Funeral Home Inc., 46 Williams St., Whitehall NY.
Whitehall American Legion post 83 will conduct a Veteran’s Service at 3:30PM and a Masonic service will follow.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
