WHITEHALL:  Anthony “Tony” G. Scrimo, 73, of Whitehall, New York, passed away in his sleep suddenly on Friday, August 26, 2016 in his home.

Born on January 7, 1943 in Ticonderoga, New York, he was the son of the late Gabriel and Dominica (Garafano) Scrimo.

He married the love of his life, Patricia “Patty” (Wood) Scrimo on July 16, 1985.

Tony served in the Armed Forces from 1965 to 1967.

He was a beloved teacher for 30 years at Hudson Falls High School, where he touched and changed so many lives for the better.

He was very active in his community. A proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council of Whitehall #276,  Whitehall B.P.O.E Lodge #1491  and active member  of the American Legion Post #83.  He was also recently elected as a member of the Whitehall Central School Board of Education, something of which he took great pride in.

Tony, ultimately, “loved youth”. He was a young soul, and you’d never fail to see him at a high school basketball, tennis, or of course, a football game. He loved children, and was a mentor and idol to so many young people who needed advice. Tony loved to have fun, as you could often find him spending the summer months at the Saratoga Casino and Racetrack, or just taking a walk around town. He was also a gifted trumpet player, and he taught one grandson how to play at a young age. He was always singing and dancing; two of his favorite songs to sing were “New York, New York”, and “The Candy Man”.

Above all, Tony loved his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy, and there was never a time when he wasn’t someone to call for a helping hand, or a listening ear. Anytime you saw Tony, he was always talking about his grandchildren, and how proud he was of them.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Patricia (Wood) Scrimo; his daughter, Rebecca (Kim) Sims, his three step children, Deborah (Jeff) McCall; Timothy Latrell; Carrie Latrell; his grandchildren, Christopher Latrell; Trey Anthony (Sammi) LeClair; Alexandra (Jordan) StClair; Colin Underwood; and Brooklyn Sims.
