Whitehall-Daune Ann Martell, 86, went into the arms of the Lord on June 1, 2017 with her family by her side. Daune was born December 8, 1930 to Robert and Johanna (Jackstadt) Hewitt. She married Harold F. Martell on September 11, 1949. They were married for almost 65 years at the time of his passing in July of 2014.
Daune was actively involved in her community. She along with other wives of the Skenesborough Volunteer Fire Company, formed a women’s auxiliary. She was a communicant of the Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Glens Falls Hospital Guild and the Red Hat Society. Daune stayed at home for many years to raise her seven children before going to work for the Whitehall Central School District. Daune’s love reached far beyond her family; she was a very caring woman who always offered kind words to anyone she met.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her Husband “Huzzy”, her daughter Heidi Biddiscombe, her brothers Richard, Donald, Robert, Thomas, Jack and Drake, her sisters Marena McLaughlin and Hope Fleury.
Daune will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. She is survived by her children, Marsha Kemp, Mary Jo Smith (Tim), James Martell, Theresa Martell, Rena Woodcock (Matt), Ann Nesbitt (Ed), her son in law Rob Biddiscombe, her daughter in law Cheri Williams, her grandchildren; Ryan Biddiscombe(Melissa), Patrick Biddescombe, Christine Settles (Aaron), Meagan Kemp, Taylor St. Clair, Jordan St.Clair (Ali) and Luc St.Clair, Lindsay and Loren Martell, Drew, Eric and Emily Steele, Alexis and Nicole Woodcock, Kadee, Ashlee, Allanah and Edward Nesbitt, her six great-grandchildren, her sisters-in-law, Karen Martel, Sandy Hewitt and Annabelle Anderson and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
No calling hours are to be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 1:00PM at the Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall. A Rite of Committal will take place in the Our Lady of Angels Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
Memorial donations may be made in Daune’s name to ALZ Association or to the ALS Association.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Fort Hudson Nursing Center for all of their kindness while she lived there, they would also like to thank Community Hospice of Saratoga for their support in her final days.
