Whitehall-Deborah (“Nan”) June Young, 72, a resident of Whitehall, NY passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at home surrounded by her loved ones, following a long illness.
She was born August 13, 1953, in Houston Texas to Nick and Patsy Strawther, who preceded her in death along with her sisters Barbara Swearingen, Mavis Kerr, and her daughter, Kimberly Roush.
Although she moved to New York from Texas with her two children, Kimberly Roush and Robert Roush II when they were very young, she never lost her southern twang or her love for country music.
In her younger years, Deborah loved waitressing and crafting and was the proud owner of DJ’s crafts. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren Kristen, Kolbey, Kolyn, Kaylee, Skyler, Erika and Brianna with her children Kimberly and Robert at the small farm that she shared with her then long-term partner, Jeremiah “Jerry” Kelly in Queensbury, NY. She also loved square dancing, and you could find her enjoying time with friends square dancing most weekends. You could also find her at Kelly’s Hibernian Hall hosting all types of parties and events alongside Jerry, who passed away in 2005 at Deborah’s side.
After Jerry’s passing, Deborah met and fell in love with Stacy (“Bucky”) Cameron whom she shared the remainder of her life with.
Deborah continued to love crafting, a good crossword puzzle, her dog Goliath, spending time with her partner, Bucky, her grandkids, great grandkids, and karaoke nights with her granddaughter, Kristen. She also loved tubing the Battenkill River in the summers until her body just couldn’t do it anymore.
Deborah was everyone’s Nan and was very loved by everyone that knew her. She will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her long-time loving partner of over 20 years, Stacy “Bucky” Cameron, her son Robert Roush II, sisters Arlene Stevens, Bette LeMaire, brother Charlie Strawther, grandchildren Kristen Roush-Flewelling and husband Joe, Kolbey Tyminski, Kolyn Tyminski and wife Makayla, Kaylee Tyminski and husband Adam, Skyler Herbold, Erika Roush, and Brianna Roush. Great grandchildren Aiden Roush, Adisyn Roush, Ayvri Roush, Scott Bills Jr, Khaleesi Mellen, Elsie June Tyminski, Kaiden Wall, Colton Rivers, Bentley Stark, Declan Stark, Ashton Roush, great great grandchild Zayn Roush and many other family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in 2026.
