Emily Scott - O'Hare went to be with the Lord on February 3rd, 2017 at her home in Queensbury, NY. She was born in Glens Falls Hospital on April 28th 1941 to Horace and Harriet Scott of Whitehall, NY. She earned her undergraduate degrees through Plattsburgh State Teachers College and Green Mountain College. As one of the last to receive lifetime certification with a baccalaureate teacher's degree, she did not require a Masters degree. Despite this, Emily chose to meet the challenge of earning her Masters degrees through the prestigious Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College and Oxford University in England.
She went on to share her love for the language we speak, read, and write with the children of New York through her 35 year-long teaching career. A favorite of many students, some of whom stayed in contact with her for many years, Emily helped her children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren write everything from book reports and letters, to term papers and resumes. Cherished by all was her witty, and most often irreverent approach to teaching us the illogical rules of the language we all use and misuse.
Emily shared her gifts with us in many ways. She could renovate and decorate a home, make sumptuous family meals, and landscape a yard with style. All can recall not one but many holiday gatherings styled to perfection, executed with the ease and grace commonly found only amongst professionals. Her yard and garden are outdoor settings as pleasing to the eye and welcoming to the visitor as the most elegant living room.
As a parent, she was an ardent advocate for her sons, Scott and Bryan. With the help of her parents and siblings, but most usually on her own, she raised them from boys to men. In later years she would ask them about the right and wrong aspects of her approach. On these occasions, her sons would reply, “Hope you were right… 'cause… that's how we're raising ours...”. Her sons will forever love her for making the tough choices and doing the hard work needed to raise boys.
She was predeceased by her mother Harriet Scott, grandson, Corey Hunter, husband, Michael O’Hare.
Survivors include her precious father Horace Scott, sons, Scott Hunter and wife Maria and Bryan Hunter and wife Kathy, grandchildren Rachel Hunter, Niko Hunter, Lin Hunter, Tesse Hunter, Andrew Marston and Evelyn Marston, beloved Tom King, brother Horace (Bud) Scott and wife Deidre, sister Donna Austin and husband Charles. In additions nephews and nieces, Patrick, Elizabeth, Leon, and Micah Scott and Ingrid Rutten-McClay and Luke Rutten and an aunt Luella Rathbun.
