Jean Vladyka Obituary

Whitehall-Jean Ann Vladyka (Lowell), 80 returned to our Lord on December 22, 2023. She was born March 9, 1943 at the corner of West and School streets in Whitehall.

Mrs. Vladyka was preceded by her grandparents Josephine and Edward (“Deacon”) Jones, in-laws Stephen and Dorothy Vladyka, her mother Teresa (Archambault) Wood, stepfather Leo Archambault, father John Lowell, sister Teresa Lowell, sisters-in-law Gloria Rich and Anna Carruth, and husband of 58 years, Stephen J. Vladyka.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Vladyka) Jero and her husband John of Fort Anne, NY, and their children Taylor and Diana, her daughter Sharon (Vladyka) Shoemaker and her husband Tom of Southborough, MA and their children Thomas, Margaret Ann, and Joseph, twin sister Joan LaCroix and her husband Charles (“Butch”) of Whitehall, NY, sister Leona Pippo of Queensbury, NY and her husband Vincent, and nephews Charlie (Vicki) and Michael (Kim) LaCroix.

Jean Lowell was born March 9, 1943 in Whitehall, NY. She graduated from Whitehall High School in 1962. She worked for GE, Jumbo IGA, the Town of Whitehall as Deputy Town Clerk for 10 years, and Whitehall Housing Authority for 13 years.

Family and community were everything to Mrs. Vladkya. She would light up whenever recounting news about her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed hosting holidays and visiting with family and friends, taking cruises, dining out, and going “shopping” in Saratoga (the casino) with Joan and a dear friend as part of the “Three Amigos”, and dining with Carol. She was always the first to start dancing and last to leave a party. And she relished her time with the Skene Manor ladies who were an invaluable support network after Steve’s passing. She left behind a rich legacy of knowledge, stories, and recipes that were generously shared with loved ones.

Jean was a tremendous giver of her time and talent, having served in numerous community organizations, including Girl Scouts, PTA, Whitehall Columbiettes, the Whitehall branch of Glens Falls Hospital (where she was a chairperson for 17 years), Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Elks where she was 2023 Elk of the Year, and Our Lady of Hope Church. She loved working Bingo Nights with Steve and was an avid supporter of Skene Manor, the beneficiary of Jean’s many years of masterful basket party leadership.
