Joan P. Peterson  December 16, 1937 - June 9, 2025

WHITEHALL -

Joan P. Peterson, 87, of 9552 State Route 4, Whitehall, N.Y., passed away on June 9, 2025, at her home peacefully in her sleep after a long battle with bladder cancer. Born on December 16, 1937, in Whitehall, NY, she was the daughter of Walter and Anna Neddo. She attended Whitehall High School graduating June 1956. On October 14, 1956, she married Albert (Don) Peterson and they were together for 68 plus years.

Joan worked as a waitress on and off throughout her life at Fred's (Scrappys) Diner, Gino's Donut Shop and The Big Apple Diner. Joan was a devout Catholic. She was a mother and homemaker who was devoted to ensuring her children had knowledge and means to be successful in life. She was a member of the Elks Fawns and The American Legion Auxiliary. Joan enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely. She also enjoyed crocheting, going to yard sales, camping and of course shopping.  She enjoyed various fairs and carnivals with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her brother, Ronald Anthony Neddo and her niece Pamela Carr.

Survivors include her husband, Albert (Don) Peterson, son, Mark Peterson, daughter, Debra (Debbie) Smith and partner, Craig Corey and son, Glenn Peterson. Joan had eight grandchildren: Lynnae Failla (Michael), Kristen Moore (Ashton), Jessica DeMaio (Marc), Justin Charpentier (Shana), Jeromy and Joshua Smith, Devin Peterson and Paxton Andrus (James).

Ten great grandchildren: Colton and Adalynn Failla, Meeka and Freya Moore, Palmer DeMaio, Hunter, Ryder, Tristan, Emma Charpentier, Hayden Smith and Josie Charpentier.  Joan is also survived by her sister, Paula Carr and her nephew, Todd Carr (Katie).

There will be a graveside service at the Clemons Cemetery in Clemons N.Y. at 11:00am on Sunday, June 22, 2025. Following the service there will be a celebration of life at the Elks Lodge in Whitehall N.Y. All are welcome.
