Whitehall - Joseph M. Golden, 82 passed away on July 16, 2025 at his home
after fighting a long courageous battle with prostate cancer. His loving family was by his side. Born on January 28, 1943 in Whitehall, New York, he was a loving and devoted husband, brother, son, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He fought with dignity, courage, and integrity, and sometimes humor, against an undignified and unrelenting opponent.
After graduating from Whitehall High School, Joseph worked at the General Electric in Fort Edward until his retirement. He also enlisted in the National Guard in 1961 until his retirement in 1989.
Joseph was the son of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Ingleston) Golden of Whitehall, New York. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Edith Golden of Whitehall, New York along with his two daughters; Tammy (David) DeLancey of South Glens Falls, Stacy (Joseph) Niles of Whitehall. He is also survived by his five cherished grandchildren: Ashley Mach, Stephanie (Christopher)O’Brien, Ryan Mach, Aaron Zoya Hyatt) Boule’, Emmily (Dustin Blanchard) Niles. He was so proud to have his eight wonderful great-grandchildren; Juliana and Chase Brewer, Daniel Mach, James O’Brien, Zayda Boule’, Sylphiette Jo, Aleah, and Zayn Blanchard. He has one surviving brother, Timothy Golden of Whitehall, New York. Joseph also leaves behind his sister-in-law's, Mary Jane Hurley, Sharon Thomson and Nemia Tumaque Golden. Several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his two brothers, Francis (Rudy) Golden and Allan Golden, both of Granville, New York.
Joseph enjoyed fishing, a passion instilled in him by his father, who was among the best, camping, gambling and was deeply devoted to his friends and family, especially his cherished friend and neighbor John Hoagland.
He was a true John Wayne fan and enjoyed all his movies. His two cats, Daisy and Giddy, were his babies and they will miss him dearly.
Joseph lived a life of faith and was an active communicant of the Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven, Vermont. He was a dedicated member of the Whitehall American Legion.
At Joseph’s request, there will be no calling hours. There will be a graveside service at the Greenmount Cemetery in Whitehall, New York sometime in September.
The family would like to thank all of the Hospice team who helped him with everything he needed in his final days.
