Whitehall- Mary (Millett) Bartholomew, 92, passed away Friday, December 16 at the Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Granville. Mary had been a resident of the Orchard for two and a half years where she had became a family member. Mary’s family cannot say enough about the wonderful care she received and the compassion and love of the staff.
Mary was born in Glens Falls on January 6, 1924 to H Bradley and Laura (Stract) Millett. Mary graduated from Whitehall High School, Class of 1942. Mary worked as a telephone operator before becoming a full time wife and mother. She married her high school sweetheart Emerson (Eppie) Bartholomew on April 24, 1946. Eppie died in June 2013 after 67 years of marriage. Together they purchased the Maplewood Dairy Farm in 1953 where they raised their six children.
Mary was an active member of the Community. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, a charter member of the Rural Charity Club, a member of the Catholic Daughters, Farm Bureau and the Hospital Guild.
Mary was a great cook, holiday dinners were always special, the more the merrier. Everything was home-made especially the rolls and pies. Birthdays were special events, Mary always made sure of that.
Mary is survived by her six children, Ann Keys and her husband John of Whitehall, Jane Goff and her husband James of Lake Placid, Kaye Aunchman and her husband Michael of Glens Falls, Harriet Wyman and her husband Tracy of Brandon VT, Robert and his wife Zalina of New Zealand, Paul and his wife Jennifer of Whitehall. Twelve grandchildren, Scott Schalm (Sheila) of Rochester, NY, Richard Keys (Rachel) and Michael Keys (Michele) of Queensbury, Laurn Martelle (Jeremy) of Chittenden, VT, Katie Leahy (Sean) of Gansevoort, Johnathon Wyman of Brandon, Christopher Batholomew of Colorado, David and Benjamin Bartholomew of Whitehall and Jamilah, Emerson and Jacques Bartholomew of New Zealand. Great-grandchildren Courtney, Taylor, Machenna, Colin and Brook Keys, Vincent Perone, Hadley Leahy, Rylee and Kynlee Martelle, Maxwell and Lauren Schalm. Her Brother John Millett Sr. of Whitehall, sister in law Jane Graham of Hanover, NH and special friends Les and Kitty Benjamin.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Monday December 19, 2016 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Jillson Funeral Home Inc. 46 Williams Street, Whitehall, New York, 12887. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Tuesday December 20, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall with Rev. Rendell Torres Pastor officiating. Interment will be in the spring at the Brick Church Cemetery.
