Queensbury/Whitehall – Monica C. (Norton) Beckwith, 74 passed away peacefully at home in Queensbury on Tuesday, November 8th, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on October 6th, 1942 in Glens Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Genevieve (Whalen) Norton. She married Robert Beckwith of Whitehall on June 21st, 1991.
Monica graduated from Whitehall High School in 1960. She then went on to receive her B.A. and M.S in elementary education from Castleton State College. She taught a total of 34 years, 28 of which were for the city of Glens Falls School District at the Sanford Street School.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Hudson Falls, NY and a member of Court McLoghlan #596 CDA in Whitehall.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her infant sister Mary Helen.
Monica is survived by her husband Robert Beckwith, her brother Francis Norton and his wife Patricia of Whitehall, along with their children Pam (Robert) Putorti, Michele (Keith) Redmond, and their children Brittney and Rebecca Putorti and Meghan and Matthew Redmond. She is also survived by her step-children; Deborah Aubin, Melissa (Terry) Knipes, Michael Beckwith and Christopher Beckwith, and several step-grandchildren.
She also leaves behind several cousins and close friends.
As per Monica’s request, there will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, November 12th at 11:00 am at The Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall, with Pastor Reverend Rendell Torres officiating. Assisted by Father Thomas Babiuch.
Burial will immediately follow at Green Mount Cemetery.
