Whitehall-Owen A. Lavin 77, of 56 Death Rock Way in Whitehall, NY, passed away after a long illness on Sunday January 1, 2017.  Owen was born on May 4, 1939 to the late Owen N. and Alice (Moore) Lavin.

In his early years Owen worked for Harder Silo’s for eight years, he then went on to work for Ciba Geigy (Hercules) for 23 years before the closing of the mill.  He then worked at Walker’s Farm for a year before retiring after ten years as a janitor at the Indian River Nursing Home in Granville.  He was also a carpenter and logger.

Owen was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He loved being around all of his family and he will be truly missed.

Besides his parents he is predeceased by his brothers Frank, Peter and Vincent Lavin and a sister Helen (Lavin) Harcourt.  He was also predeceased by three nephews Frank Lavin, Timothy and Joseph Eagan.

Survivors include his wife Barbara J. (Belden) Lavin whom he married on December 27, 1958, sons Owen W. (Penny) Lavin, Richard M. (Beth) Lavin, John (Stacy) Lavin, daughters Elizabeth (Rick) Therrien, Patricia (Chris) Gordon, Darcy Lavin.  Grandchildren Rickie Therrien (Tara), Amanda Therrien (Sarah), Kayla Lavin, Leah (Shane) Marino, Holly Lavin (Justin), Connor McKee, Jennifer (Eric) Pratt, Matthew Lavin (Chris), Zachary Lavin (Charysse), Christopher Gordon Jr. (Rosemary), Melissa Gordon, Tyler Lavin, Josiah Lavin, Kyle Lavin and Alice E. Lavin. Great Grandchildren Gabriel Therrien, Justin Hurley Jr., Willow Marino, Haylee and Emylee Pratt, Lily Lavin, Ayden Smith, Dylan and Preston Gordon, Keaton and Mayve Washington.  Siblings Richard (Connie) Lavin, George (Terry) Lavin, Theresa Eagan, Alice Lavin, Susan (Art) Howard, Ceil Shumack (Richard), Jane Anderson. Brother in Law Gordon Harcourt, Donald Belden (Nancy), Keith Belden, Bill and Kim Belden, Francis Belden, Cheryl Robarge, Robert and Shirley Belden, Linda and Jim Tanner, Ellen and Leslie Currier.

The family would like to say thank you to all at the Wound Care Center at the Glens Falls Hospital, the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the C. R. Wood Cancer Center, the staff on Tower 6 at the Glens Falls Hospital, HCR nurses, Skenesborough Rescue Squad and Whitehall First Responders.  A special thank you to Patty and Stanley Kasuba for all of their help.

A mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00am on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Rendell Torres, Pastor Officiating.  Family and friends may call on Wednesday January 4, 2017 from 4pm to 8pm at the Jillson Funeral Home, 46 Williams Street, Whitehall, New York 12887.

Contributions may be made in Owen’s name to C.R. Wood Cancer Center at the Glens Falls Hospital, 102 Park Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.
