WHITEHALL: Robert J. Charpentier 94, of Williams Street passed away on June 20, 2016 in the Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Granville following a long illness.
Robert was born on January 31, 1922 in Rutland, Vermont. The son of the late Albert G. and Pauline (Courcelle) Charpentier
Bob attended Whitehall High School and served in the US Army in the 462 Parachute Field Artillery Battalion during World War II.
In his early years he was employed by the Delaware and Hudson Railroad as a Heavy Equipment Operator on the St. Lawrence Seaway. He later retired from Telescope Folding Furniture Company in Granville.
He was a 54 Year member of the American Legion Post # 83 of Whitehall, Whitehall Elks lodge # 1491 and the VFW.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at Carps Camp. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening and bowling.
Robert was married to Loretta M. Chase on February 19, 1949 and they were married for 62 years before her passing on April 28, 2011. He is also predecease by his parents and three brothers Erwin G. Charpentier, Albert A Charpentier and George P. Charpentier Sr.
Survivors include his two sons Gary R. Charpentier and his wife Jacqueline of Whitehall and Keith R.(Skip) Charpentier of Whitehall, grandchildren, Jeromie Charpentier of Whitehall, Valerie Charpentier of Fort Johnson, Justin Charpentier and his wife Shana of Salt Point, a sister Marie Fagan of Delhi and several nieces and nephews.
Family and Friends make call from noon until the time of the service at the Jillson Funeral Home Inc. 46 Williams Street, Whitehall, New York, on Friday June 24, 2016. At 1:30 PM following calling hours a prayer service will be conducted by Reverend Rendell Torres Pastor of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
The American Legion Post # 83 will conduct a Legionnaire service at 1PM at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Whitehall with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post # 83 of Whitehall.
