Whitehall: Sylva J. Fields, Jr., 79, of Fifth Avenue passed away on February 23, 2016 at the Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Rochester, Vermont on December 14, 1936, the son of the late Sylva Sr. and Ester (Bancroft) Fields.
He worked for the Delaware & Hudson Railroad from 1956 to 1997 and retired as a conductor.
He was a former member of the B. P. O. E. Lodge #1491 and helped with their bingo.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren and his loving wife.
In his early years, he enjoyed the harness track and was part owner of many horses and recently he enjoyed going to the Saratoga Racino.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Ellsworth Fields.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Rosemary (Blair) Fields of Whitehall; three daughters, Betty Ostrander and her husband Donald of Hillsdale, New York, Sue Bucher and her husband, John of Hudson Falls and Sally Donahue and her husband, Richard of Gansevoort; grandchildren Samantha Ostrander, Chrissy Laurange, Christopher Garnsey, Candice Choppy, Jeff Bucher, Matt Bucher, and Ben Bucher; one great grandchild, Skyler Adam Laurange; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank his nurse and care giver Heather Hollister for all that she did for him.
Family and friends may call at the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc, 46 Williams Street, Whitehall, NY on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. At 1:00 PM, a prayer service will be held with Rev. Rendell Torres, pastor of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
Interment will be in the spring in Greenmount Cemetery in Whitehall.
