William (Billy) L. Whalen

Whitehall:  William Lawrence “Billy” Whalen, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in the Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, Vermont at the age 62.

Billy was born in Rutland, Vermont on June 20, 1954 and spent his youth in Whitehall, graduating from Whitehall High School.

He worked for many years for the Delaware & Hudson Railroad and later the Canadian Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 2014.

Billy loved the good life. He enjoyed skiing, especially in France and Switzerland, biking, hiking, snorkeling in the waters in Jamaica, Cozumel and Honduras.

He had an anecdote for every occasion often regaling everyone about the antics of him and his friends on his many trips.  He also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, William and Dora Whalen, Uncle Bobby and step-father, Tom Jones.

He is survived by his mother Carolyn Ruth Jones of Whitehall, Aunt Eileen (Bob) Rozell of Whitehall, sisters, Kandy (Rick) Bruce of Whitehall and Piper Whalen of Boca Raton, Florida; brother, Barry (Jesse) Whalen of Meredith, New Hampshire, nieces and nephews, Kerrie (Gary)Gordon, Rick (Jolene) Bruce, Katelyn (Aron) Tessier, Alyson (Dan) Whalen, Marie Whalen; great nieces and nephews, Zachary and Kassidy Gordon, Jessica and Ricky Bruce, Cadence and Lyla Tessier and Emma, Finlay and Jason Whalen,  and Christina and Rachel Mesita.

Family and friends may call at the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams Street, Whitehall, on Monday, November 21, 2016 from 5PM to 8PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated  on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall with Rev. Joseph Arockiasamy, Pastor of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Granville, officiating.

Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation in Billy’s name to American Heart Association, Northeastern Region, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.

Pallbearers will be Barry Whalen, Richard H. Bruce, Richard D. Bruce, Gary Gordon, Ellery Willett and Steve Gauci.
